Shanghai World Financial Center

The Shanghai World Financial Center is located in the center of the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone in Pudong and is the second tallest building in the world. With a total of 101 floors, it measures a staggering 1614 feet (492 m) in height.

It was originally planned to be the tallest building in the world when it was designed in 1997, with hopes of surpassing the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. When construction began in 2003, the 1670-foot (508 m) Tapei 101 tower was already on its way to becoming the world’s tallest building. Since the foundation was already set on the World Financial Center, the tower could not be built any higher.

Today, most of the floors are occupied by office buildings and meeting facilities. The Park Hyatt Hotel is located on floors 79-93, and floors 94-100 are used mainly for sightseeing. The observatory deck is the tallest in the world, surpassing Dubai Tower and Canada’s National Tower. Strolling along the deck made of transparent glass, you can see break-taking 360 degree views of Shanghai.
