With a history of over 50 years, the Shanghai Zoo is home to over 6,000 animals and is one of the most noted ecological gardens in Shanghai. The zoo contains 600 indigenous rare animals, including the Lesser and Giant panda, South China tiger, and Golden-Haired monkey, as well as animals from all over the world.
One of the zoo’s main goals is to provide an ecologically-friendly environment for animals and visitors alike. Hundreds of species of trees and flowers are spread throughout the park to create a harmonious environment that simulates the animals’ natural habitats. Since the zoo’s founding, it has hosted over 150 million visitors and provided a better understanding and appreciation of the animals and their environments.
