Built over 3,000 years ago, Wuxi is an old industrial city in Jiangsu Province situated along the Yangtze River. The city is split into halves by Lake Tai and borders Changzhou to the west and Suzhou to the east. Though once rich in tin deposits, all the natural resources had been depleted by end the Qin Dynasty (221 BC-206 BC). Thus the city was given its current name, Wuxi, meaning “without tin”.
Up until the 20th century, the city became one of the four most important rice markets in the nation and the center of the textile industry in China. It has been dubbed “Little Shanghai” because of its thriving economy and is one of the fifteen economic centers in China. Aside from industrial importance, Wuxi is also a city rich history and natural beauty.
