Wuzhen Water Town

Situated in the center of the six ancient towns south of the Yangtze River is Wuzhen, a city with over 2000 years of history. Ancient stone bridges, delicate wood carvings, and stone pathways line canals that make up 82% of the towns total area. Though it has gone through many years of historical change, it still retains its original scenery and cultural atmosphere.

Tradition is still very much alive in this township and the locals still attend flower-drum operas, temple fairs, and shadow-puppet shows. It’s the culture, unchanged lifestyle, delicious food, and peaceful landscape that make Wuzhen unique from other water townships. It has earned the “2003 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award” and also been among the first batch of the “Four A-Level Scenic Areas” evaluated by the National Tourism Bureau.
