Located in a suburb of Shanghai, Zhu Jia Jiao is an ancient water township famous for its glistening canals, stone bridges, and tranquil scenery. This fan-shaped village has a history of over 1700 years, but is well-preserved and retains most of its original architecture, local traditions, and cuisine.
Once an important shipping port, Zhu Jia Jiao’s canals were filled with barges which carried their wares to and from other villages. Today, traditional Chinese gondolas are still the most convenient mode of transportation throughout the town. Gliding through the canals on these boats, visitors can enjoy breathtaking scenic views of this ancient fishing village.
