Day 1  USA - Bangkok, Thailand

Our Asia vacation starts as we board an international flight bound for Bangkok. Enjoy inflight meals, beverages, and entertainment. *Thailand entry visa and China entry visa are not required for USA passport holders. If you choose to extend your stay in Beijing, then you will need to obtain China visa. For passports other than US passport, please get the entry visa on your own. Day 2  Arrive Bangkok Accommodation: Centara Grand At Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok or Similar

Touch down in Beijing and catch a connecting flight to Bangkok, Thailand's capital city.  Guests flying with Cathay Pacific, will board a connecting flight in Hong Kong.  Upon arrival at Bangkok International Airport, enjoy a transfer to your hotel and the remainder of the evening to rest and relax. *Airport transfers not included for land only travelers*

Day 3  Bangkok (ABF,L) Accommodation: Centara Grand At Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok or Similar

Home to nearly 9 million people, Bangkok fuses über-modernity with age-old Buddhist traditions. After breakfast, discover the city’s royal history and rich culture on a sightseeing tour. Visit the Temple of Golden Buddha (Wat Trimitr), home to the world’s biggest solid-gold Buddha statue, measuring 10 feet high, weighing over 5 tons, and valued at $14m. Drink in the scents and colors of orchids, marigolds and roses as we pass by the Paklong Talat flower market, and visit the Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) to admire its gargantuan statue. After a Thai buffet lunch at a local restaurant, continue to a gem workshop and silk factory to see how these precious items are produced for sale. This evening, don’t miss our optional tour of one of Bangkok’s most popular night markets followed by a classical Thai dinner show.

Day 4  Bangkok (ABF) Accommodation: Centara Grand At Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok or Similar

Today, enjoy Bangkok independently, perhaps visiting more Buddhist temples, sampling the incredible restaurants or street markets, or shopping at the modern malls. Alternatively, experience Bangkok’s main attractions on our optional Landmarks of Bangkok tour. Walk through the Grand Palace, a stunning complex of gold-coated halls and shrines that housed Thailand’s royals for 150 years, and which includes the sacred Temple of the Emerald Buddha. After a boat ride along the Chao Phraya River, enjoy lunch at a local Thai restaurant, and visit the Dusit Palace to explore the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall, a Renaissance-influenced mansion commissioned by King Rama V in 1906. View the ‘Arts of the Kingdom’ exhibition of precious Thai arts in this magnificent marble hall before returning to your hotel. **Visitors must have shoulders, arms and legs fully covered to visit the Ananta Samakhom**

Day 5  Bangkok - Kanchanaburi - River Kwai (ABF,L) Accommodation: Felix River Kwai Resort

Start out after breakfast this morning, traveling southwest from Bangkok to the colorful Damnoen Saduak floating market. Chug along the waterways by long-tailed speedboat, passing canoes piled with fruits, spices, flowers and souvenirs, and gaining fascinating insight into the Thai people’s daily life. Next, head to Kanchanaburi to visit the War Cemetery and Bridge over River Kwai, where in 1943, thousands of Allied prisoners of war and Asian laborers worked on the ‘Death Railway.’ After lunch and hotel check-in, enjoy the rest of the day free or enjoy our optional Elephant trekking and Bamboo rafting tour.

For those departing in June and later - you will have the opportunity to join our optional tour to Elephant World Sanctuary.

Day 6  River Kwai - Ayutthaya (ABF) Accommodation: Krungsri River Hotel

After breakfast, journey to Ayutthaya, home to the UNESCO-listed ruins of the medieval capital of Siam. Founded in 1350, this royal city was a major power for over 400 years, until Burmese forces destroyed it in the 1700s. Stroll around the remains of this once-thriving city, seeing the restored chedi of the crumbled Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the blackened remnants of monasteries, the carved Buddha face entangled in tree roots, and the working Wat Yai Chaimongkol temple. Your tour also includes time at the Bang Pa In palace, a beautiful lakeside retreat of Thailand’s kings during the 19th century. Tonight, make the most of Ayutthaya’s setting by joining us for an optional dinner cruise on a traditional wooden rice barge.

Day 7  Ayutthaya - Pattaya (ABF,L) Accommodation: Long Beach Garden Hotel & Spa

Relax over breakfast before a scenic drive to Pattaya, a popular vacation spot on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand whose beaches and entertainments draw thousands of visitors annually. On arrival, experience the virtual ‘Theme Park - Dark Ride’ at a gems gallery, learning about Thailand’s most prized gemstones. Then, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day as you please, perhaps relaxing on the sands or by the pool. Later, you may wish to take our optional Pattaya by Night tour, savoring a sumptuous seafood dinner and cabaret show.

Day 8  Pattaya - Bangkok - Chiang Mai (ABF) Accommodation: Holiday Inn Chiang Mai or Similar

After breakfast, transfer to Bangkok airport and fly to Chiang Mai, nicknamed the ‘Rose of the North,’ for its beautiful temples, rich Lanna heritage, and setting among rainforest-clad hills. On arrival, get to know this delightful city on a tour, visiting the Wat Chedi Luang temple, a stunning example of a Lanna-era shrine. Enjoy a panoramic drive around the old city, seeing its moat and remains of the city gates. Next, turn the spotlight on the region’s famous craft heritage. See local artisans at work and browse for souvenirs at the Thai Handicraft Village, visit San Kamphaeng’s silk and cotton workshops, and explore Bo Sang, where craftspeople make ornate Sa Paper umbrellas and paper goods.  Enjoy the evening free or choose to sample the distinctive cuisine and culture of northern Thailand on our optional Lanna Kantoke dinner show excursion.

Day 9  Chiang Mai (ABF) Accommodation: Holiday Inn Chiang Mai or Similar

Spend today relaxing or exploring Chiang Mai on your own, or if you’re passionate about Thai food, join our optional Spirit of Chiang Mai and Thai Cooking Class experience. With guidance from a local cook, discover the fresh ingredients and spices that are staples of Chiang Mai’s cuisine, and cook and taste your own classic recipe.  Afterward, continue to Doi Suthep Temple, a revered 14th-century temple that houses a holy relic of the Lord Buddha in its golden roof. Climb the steps to explore this spectacular hillside temple and drink in the sweeping views over the city and surrounding countryside.

Day 10  Chiang Mai (ABF) Accommodation: Holiday Inn Chiang Mai or Similar

Today, ease back at your hotel or experience more of northern Thailand on our optional day trio to Chiang Rai, The Golden Triangle and Don Sao Island in Laos. Discover the beautiful  Maekhajan hot springs and temples of Wat Rong Khun and Wat Chedi Luang before heading into the Golden Triangle, once the hub of the opium trade, and where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. After an authentic Thai lunch at a local restaurant, ride a boat along the Mekong River to Don Sao, an island located inside the borders of Laos where you’ll find markets and an opium museum. Visit the museum and a market at Mae Sai before heading back to Chiang Mai.

Day 11  Chiang Mai (ABF) Accommodation: Holiday Inn Chiang Mai or Similar

Wake to a full day at leisure today. Perhaps lounge by the hotel pool, enjoy your own independent sightseeing trip, browse for souvenirs at Chiang Mai’s markets, or sample some of the street food and restaurants— the choice is yours.

Day 12  Chiang Mai - USA (ABF)

Start with a tasty breakfast at your hotel, and after checking out, enjoy a convenient morning transfer to Chiang Mai International Airport. Then, board your return flight to the USA, bidding farewell to Thailand and concluding your discovery of this exotic country.
